Silica was originally considered a pollution issue. However, with today's cleaning technology, it has become a resource and an important product for Finnfjord.
Description
Silica is an ultrafine, dry fume, made up of nearly completely round particles with an average size of 0,15 micrometers. Silica fume is initially a waste product from the production of ferrosilicon (FeSi). However, with today's cleaning technology, it has become a resource and an important product for Finnfjord.
Silica fume is used as an additive in concrete. It increases the electrical resistivity and decreases permeability, which improves the structure of the concrete.
The quality of Finnfjord's silica fume is demanded all across the world. It has, for instance, been used in the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur; the world's tallest twin towers, Copenhagen Metro and the Hålogaland bridge in Narvik.
